Explore the quaint village of Arrowtown before you ride at your own pace along the stunning Queenstown Trail to the shores of Lake Wakatipu and into Queenstown Bay!
Starting with a 25-minute scheduled bus departure from Around The Basin's shop to Arrowtown. Once you arrive, we'll provide you with everything you need for this self-guided adventure ride: a top-notch mountain bike or E-bike with a helmet, a detailed briefing on the route, and our handy trail map for navigation. Take some time to explore Arrowtown, a historic settlement from the Gold Rush era, or grab a coffee to kickstart your day.
The journey kicks off by following the Arrow River Trail downstream to the Morven Ferry, crossing the river on breathtaking bridges. Then, you'll join the Twin Rivers Trail, tracing the Kawarau and Shotover rivers to the shores of Lake Whakatipu. Enjoy stunning alpine views as you traverse the foothills of The Remarkables mountains. Even the Old Shotover Bridge, standing for over a century, offers remarkable views of two ski areas.
The final leg of the journey is a relaxed trail along the lake's edge, passing cafés and a brewery before reaching central Queenstown. This ride covers wide gravel trails, graded 2 or 3, with a minimum distance of 35 KM and a few challenging hills. Plan for 3-4 hours of biking on average.
Confident riders with good fitness will enjoy this ride, but we recommend an Electric-bike upgrade for those tackling the bigger hills. Rest assured, you're in good hands with Around The Basin, Queenstown's most experienced bike tour operator!

We throughly enjoyed the ride using ebikes great scenery. We found the ride easy but the signage was very poor for out of Townes. The instructions from the company were great but they also warned us about going off the trail which we did several times due to poor signage. The signs need to say queens town this way not some place we had never heard of. Overall highly recomended.
Hi Noel, Thanks for your review and glad you had a good ride! Sorry that you found the signage poor. These are done by the Queenstown Trail Network and designed to be used alongside our map we give you (that has the place names on you may not have heard of), and sometimes people miss some signs as they're distracted by the scenery! But thank you for your feed back as it is always good to be aware of, we will try and make sure that the trail stays well marked. Thanks, Louise at Around The Basin
Experienced a great day cycling trails from Arrowtown to Queenstown. After a shuttle ride from Queenstown to Arrowtown, received a hire bike and rode to the shops for a quick look around and brunch. Picked a route back to Queenstown and soaked up the amazing scenery along the way. Cycled vial Hugo tunnel, Tucker Beach and a few bridges then along Lake Whakatipu back to Queenstown on a manual bike. Loved the ride and recommend the activity for other bike riders.
Excellent staff handling of us all. Great tutorials regarding the bike. Beautiful scenery on the trail good trail to ride. Good bike.
