Launch the Big Kanu at Lake McLaren and paddle through the tranquil waters toward the head of the lake.
While paddling, look up at the canyon walls to discover hundreds of Glowworms lit up like stars. Our guides will teach you about the life cycle and peculiarities of the Glowworms. Our tour is designed to leave at the perfect hour to experience the full luminescent glow from the Glowworms.
This will be a tour you won’t forget!
Available for all ages!
This tour departs from Lake McLaren in the Lower Kaimai ranges- directions to the meeting point will be given upon booking. We do not provide transport to the meeting site for this tour.

Night Time Glow
Nina and Alec were terrific! This is truly an amazing experience for all ages. Our tour guides confidently guided us across beautiful Lake McLaren at night to a canyon filled with glow worms. This has to be one of the most unusual experiences we had. Thank you, Nina and Alec.

What an amazing thing to do in Tauranga!
Our night was absolutely magical with Big Kanu glowworm experience! Not only to mention the beautiful scenary that we thoroughly enjoyed getting to the glowworms sight spot and the canyon itself but also fatastic guide from Kayley and David! They made the whole experience so much better with interesting stories and facts thoroughout the journey! Will come back to try other types of activities from this company for sure!

Amazing experience
We chose the Big Kanu option as we had an elderly person in the group, it was a perfect night on the lake. The guides were fun and informative and the glow worms were so bright. I don't like caves so haven't been to Waitomo so was very excited to see an option without a cave.
